Genuine Gamma Chapter History
In March of 1996, founding mother of University of Washington's Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Magdalena M. Saldana, was a junior(transfer student) at UW. Concerned about the decreasing unity among the small population of Latinas at the UW, she met with a group of ladies to discuss a vision and dream that was in her heart. Facing the difficulty of attempting to increase the Latina unity at the University of Washington, as well as to allow women of color to grow and unite, Magdalena set out to design a solution. So she took it upon herself to search for a new organization that would create this much needed common bond, and enhance all of the individuals that participated. Out of this focused drive began the interest group of Hermanas Unidas.
As time passed, Magdalena found the resolution to her dream; a sorority called Gamma Alpha Omega. On April 12, 1996, club status was granted to the interest group members at the University of Washington, and the newly formed Sisterhood of Gamma Alpha Omega, "Las Gammitas" was born.
On January 24, 1997, the first eight members of "Las Gammitas" crossed over to become hermanas de Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority Inc.
